Message from the President

November 2013

Dear Colleagues and Friends of MSU:

We are approaching a pivotal time in our nation’s history and one that gives each of us reason to pause to share our opinions and to learn from each other by joining important conversations.  As we approach 2014, Michigan State University is gearing up to acknowledge the 60th Anniversary of the Supreme Court Decision in Brown v. the Topeka Board of Education and the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (CRA of 1964).  Michigan State University is in a unique position to acknowledge the role that former MSU President John A. Hannah played with the passage of the CRA of 1964 when he was appointed as the first chairman of the United States Commission on Civil Rights by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1957.  In demonstrating leadership and focusing on these important events in our nation’s and institution’s history, Michigan State University will facilitate many conversations around civil and human rights.  More
